| | In the fourth year [of his reign], spring, the King's second month, Lady Jiang Shi entertained Duke Qi at Zhuqiu. Feast, how great it is! Entertaining Duke Qi was the reason for Duke Qi's illness.

| | In March, Lady Ji Boji died. An external lady is not recorded as having died; why then does this text say she died? She was my daughter, and when married to a feudal lord, her status became equal. Because I changed for her sake, she is recorded as having died.

夏，齊侯、陳侯、鄭伯遇於垂。紀侯大去其國。大去者，不遺一人之辭也。言民之從者，四年而後畢也。紀侯賢而齊侯滅之，不言滅而曰大去其國者，不使小人加乎君子。 |
| | In summer, Duke Qi, Duke Chen, and Duke Zheng met at Chui. Ji Hou departed completely from his state. "To depart completely" means not leaving a single person behind. It is said that the people who followed him did so, and it took four years before they were all gone. Duke Ji was virtuous but Duke Qi destroyed him; the text does not say "destroyed" but instead says "departed completely from his state," so as not to allow a petty person to be placed above a noble.

| | On the Yichou day of the sixth month, Duke Qi buried Lady Ji Boji. An external lady is not usually recorded as being buried; why then is her burial mentioned here? She was my daughter, who lost her state, so she was secretly buried.

冬，公及齊人狩於郜。齊人者，齊侯也。其曰人何也？卑公之敵，所以卑公也。何為卑公也？不復仇而怨不釋，刺釋怨也。 |
| | In winter, the Duke and Qi people hunted at Gao. "Qi people" refers to Duke Qi. Why then is it called "people"? It degrades the Duke's equal, thus degrading the Duke. Why is this degrading to the Duke? He did not take revenge, yet his resentment was not released; it criticizes the release of resentment.
