後唐莊宗年十一從晉王討王行瑜。初令入覲獻捷，昭宗一見，駭異之曰。此子有奇表。乃撫其背曰。兒將來之國棟，勿忘忠孝於吾家。乃賜鸂鶒酒巵。翡翠盤。十三讀春秋，略知大義。騎射絕倫。其心豁如，採錄善言，聽納容物，殆劉聰之比也。又云，昭宗曰。此子可亞其父。時人號曰亞子。出《北夢瑣言》
