唐刑部尚書李日知目為畿赤。不曾行杖罰，其事克濟。及為刑部尚書。有令史受敕三日。忘不行者，尚書索杖剝衣。喚令史總集。欲決之。責曰。我欲笞汝一頓，恐天下人稱你云，撩得李日知嗔，喫李日知杖，你亦不是人，妻子亦不禮汝。遂放之，自是令史無敢犯者。設有稽失。衆共責之。出《朝野僉載》
