唐祕監賀知章有高名，告老歸吳中，明皇嘉重之，每事加異。知章將行，泣涕辭，上問何所欲，曰。臣有男，未有定名，幸陛下賜之，歸為鄉里之榮。上曰。為道之要，莫若於信，孚者、信也，履信思乎順，卿之子必信順之人也，宜名之曰孚。再拜而授命焉。久而謂人曰。上何謔我邪，我實吳人，孚乃爪下為子，豈非呼我兒為爪子耶。出《開天傳信記》
