1  | 明夏言撰。言字公谨，贵溪人，正德丁丑进士，授兵科给事中。历官礼部尚书、武英殿大学士。后以主复河套，为严嵩所构，坐与曾铣交关，弃市。隆庆初，追复原官，谥文愍。事迹具《明史》本传。言初以才器受知世宗，而柄用之后，志骄气溢，傲愎自专，卒以致败，其事业殊无可称。特学问淹博，于故事夙所留意。又值世宗锐意改制之时，故于一朝典礼，多所酌定。如南北郊分祀、更定文庙祀典及大禘礼仪、立先蚕坛之类，悉言所赞成。迨帝擢掌礼部，益力举其职。 |
