《卷一百六十六 元稹（庞严附）白居易（弟行简 敏中附）》

武宗皇帝素闻居易之名，及即位，欲徵用之。宰相李德裕言居易衰病，不任朝谒，因言从弟敏中辞艺类居易，即日知制诰，召入翰林充学士，迁中书舍人。累至兵部侍郎、学士承旨。会昌末，同平章事，兼刑部尚书、集贤史馆大学士。宣宗即位，加右仆射、金紫光禄大夫、太清宫使、太原郡开国公、食邑二千户。及李德裕再贬岭南，敏中居四辅之首，雷同毁誉，无一言伸理，特论罪之。五年，罢相，检校司空，出为邠州刺史、邠宁节度、招抚党项都制置等使。七年，进位特进、成都尹、剑南西川节度副大使、知节度等事。十一年二月，检校司徒、平章事、江陵尹、荆南节度使。懿宗即位，徵拜司徒、门下侍郎、平章事，复辅政。寻加侍中。三年罢相，为河中尹、河中晋绛节度使。累迁中书令。太子太师致仕，卒。
