7  | 举进士，试开封及礼部别院，皆第一。神宗阅其文曰：「是深于经术者，可革浮薄。」调澶州司户参军，北京国子监教授。元佑初，为太学正，李清臣荐堪馆阁，召试，除秘书省正字，迁校书郎，以秘阁校理通判扬州，召还，为著作佐郎。章敦当国，出知齐州，群盗昼掠途巷。补之默得其姓名、囊橐皆审，一日宴客，召贼曹以方略授之，酒行未竟，悉擒以来，一府为彻警。坐修《神宗实录》失实，降通判应天府、亳州，又贬监处、信二州酒税。徽宗立，复以著作召。既至，拜吏部员外郎、礼部郎中，兼国史编修、实录检讨官。党论起，为谏官管师仁所论，出知河中府，修河桥以便民，民画祠其像。徙湖州、密州、果州，遂主管鸿庆宫。还家，葺归来园，自号归来子，忘情仕进，慕陶潜为人。大观末，出党籍，起知达州，改泗州，卒，年五十八。 |
