《卷四十九》

白死、知不旷旷，弃也，赏死事死王事，赏延于世世，嗣也，凡诸侯死王事，加二等，于是有以衮敛衮，上公服，孤子死王事者之子，周礼，养死政之老谓死王事者之父母。《周礼》，春飨孤子礼，君子聴磬声，则思死封疆之臣礼。子云：利禄先死者而后生者则民不偕，先亡者则民可以托言不偷于死者，则生者信之，偕死弃死者也，蹈白刃而死。　衽金革，死而不厌礼，不酬继死之功何劝，将来之善？死寇。　死，明臣节。赏表王恩，齐侯令曰：「得弊无存尸者，以五家免。乃得其尸，公三，襚之，先以士服，次大夫服，次卿服。与之犀轩直盖，亲推之三。犀轩卿，车直，盖高盖也。陈成子属孤子三日朝，㑹死事者之子，三日朝以礼之。设乗车两马，系五色。召顔涿聚之子晋赐之曰：「车服而朝，无废前劳。隰之役，汝父死焉。能执干戈以卫社稷童汪锜。羽林孤儿死王事者之子，养于羽林，教以五兵也。立后，魏祖令将士絶无后者，为求亲戚为后，授上田，给耕牛，置师教，为立庙也。智者不背时而弃利。勇士不怯死而减名。孔三世有罪，常降一等，周曽传又有吕贲、康秀琳、梁兴朝、贾乐卿、侯仙钦皆死希烈之难，赠贲、秀琳尚书左、右仆射，兴朝等皆秩尚书，遣萧昕致祭境上，命李勉、哥舒曜访其家子孙。诏虽三世有罪，常降一等。襃死难之士，养死事之孤，李翰所善张巡死节，肃宗未及知翰，传巡功状，表上之曰：臣闻圣主襃死难之士，养死事之孤，或亲推輀车，或追建邑封，厚死以慰生，抚存以荅亡君，不遗其臣，臣亦不背其君也。
