51  | 室其制始于韩人，室皆离地尺许，以木为板，藉以莞席，入室则脱履户外。中人之家大率湫隘，旧藩世族则曲廊洞房，畸零而缭曲，每不知东西南北之何向。室内无复门户窗牖，皆以纸为屏，下承以槽，随意开阖，四面皆然。室之隅必留席地，以其半架为小阁，掩以纸屏以庋器物；以其半为古时床第之制，以悬书画、陈器玩。寝处无定所，展屏风张帐幕则就寝矣。室之外有尺许地为檐，其左右为厕，即于近壁处为厕腧。考《史记张耳传》："要之置厕'，《索隐》日：「隐侧之处。」《汉书·刘向传》：「居霸陵，北临厕。」注日：「厕，侧近水也。」《张释之传》：「上居外，临厕。」注：「岸之边，侧也。」《汲黯传》：「上踞厕，视之。」注：「床边，侧世。」厕为侧．盖古之居室于室外走右动侧名为删，即于隐处置仃清，窞亦沿其名为删，后世沿习，乃专以删为匿溷。汉武之踞厕见卫青。盖以寝室之侧，非延见之所，故为不敬。师古谓床之边侧不如室之边侧为确，观于东人居室可知其义也。 |
