29  | 甲戌，望之入奏使事，退，引见金使孝民，言愿遣亲王、宰相到军前议和，帝顾宰执，未有对者。李纲请行，帝不许，命李棁奉使，望之、世则副之。宰执退，纲独留，问所以不遣之旨。帝曰：「卿性刚，不可以往。」纲对曰：「敌气太锐，吾大兵未集，固不可以不和。然所以和者得策，则中国之势遂安；不然，祸患未已。宗社安危，在此一举。李棁柔懦，恐误国事。」因言：「敌人贪婪无厌，又有燕人狡狯以为之谋，必且张大声势，过有邀求。如朝廷不为之动，措置合宜，彼当戢敛而退。若朝廷震惧，一切与之，彼知中国无人，益肆凯觎，忧未已也。」 |
