6  | 甲子，有司上窃盗赃至大辟，诏特贷其死，因谓宰相曰：「朕常重惜人命，如此类者，往往贷其极刑，但时取其甚者，警衆多尔，不欲小人知寛贷之意，恐其犯法者衆也」。乙丑，上御丹凤楼观灯，见士庶阗咽，谓宰相曰：「国家承累世干戈之后，朕孜孜求治，惟望上天垂佑，福此下民，今海宇乂安，京师繁盛，殊以为慰。朕居常䍐饮，今夕与卿等同乐，宜各尽醉」。于是每举酒，以虚爵示羣臣。涪陵县公廷美至房州，颇自咎责，因忧悸成疾而卒，丁卯，房州以闻，上咽呜流涕，谓宰相曰：「廷美自少刚愎，长益凶恶，朕以同气至亲，不忍置之于法，畀居房陵，兾其思过，中心念之，未始暂忘，方欲推恩复旧，遽兹殒逝，痛伤奈何！」因悲泣，感动左右，乃诏追封廷美为涪王，赐諡曰悼，为发哀成服。其后从容谓宰相曰：「廷美母陈国夫人耿氏，朕乳母也，后出嫁赵氏，主军器库副使廷俊，朕以廷美，故令廷俊属鞬左右，廷俊泄禁中事于廷，美日者，西池窃发之谋，若命有司穷究，则廷美罪不容诛。朕止令居守西洛，而廷美不悔过，益怨望，出不逊语，始命迁房陵以全宥之。至于廷俊，亦不加深罪，但从贬黜，朕于廷美葢无负矣」。言讫，为之恻然，李昉对曰：「涪陵悖逆，天下共闻，而宫禁中事，若非陛下委曲宣示，臣等何由知之」。 |
