字大年，建州浦城人，生有毛被体尺馀，经月乃落七嵗，能属文。雍熙初，太宗闻其名，召试诗赋五篇，下笔立成，深加赏异，命内侍送至中书，宰相表贺。翌日，下制曰：「汝方髫龀，不由师训，精爽神助，文字生知，越长絶尘，一日千里，深有望于汝也」。即授秘书省正字，赐袍笏。俄丁外艰，淳化中，诣阙献文，命试翰林，赐进士第，迁光禄寺丞。真宗即位，超拜左正言，预修《太宗实录》。书成，乞外补就养，知处州，召还，知制诰。景徳初，加通进、银台司兼门下封驳事，俄判史馆，与王钦若总修《册府元龟》。亿素薄其人，钦若衔之。又陈彭年方以文学进，忌亿名出其右，相与毁訾，上不为动。天禧二年，拜工部侍郎，官至翰林学士。四年十二月卒，年五十七，集一百九十四卷。
