戊辰绍兴十八年春正月戊辰，诸王宫大小学教授林大鼐为太常寺主簿，仍兼秘书省校勘书籍。大鼐初为举子，尝答策言秦桧靖康忠义之节。桧时闲居永嘉，见其文，默识之，至是稍获荐用。丁丑，太常博士骆庭芝罢。先是，参知政事段拂闻赵鼎死于海南，为之叹息。秦桧怒，殿中侍御史馀尧弼将按拂罪，先奏庭芝密与执政私交，漏泄机事，遂罢之。自是拂不安于位矣。左承议郎张阐添差通判泉州。自秦桧专国，朝士为所忌者，终身以添倅或帅幕处之，未尝有为郡者。辛巳，命权工部侍郎李椿年同看详诸路监司郡守条具裕民文字。壬午，殿中侍御史馀尧弼入对，论参知政事段拂灭弃人伦。戊子，辅臣进呈。上语及人材，因谓秦桧曰：『士专谋身，国家何赖?励世磨钝，惟在进贤退不肖。』桧曰：『此乃致治之要。』上曰：『但审其贤否而进退之，则人自知劝沮矣。』
