冬十月丙子，钱象祖为左丞相，史弥远为右丞相，雷孝友为枢密院事兼参知政事，娄机参知政事，楼钥同知枢密院事。己卯［2］，褒录庆元上书杨宏中、徐范、张道各循一资，周端朝、林仲麟各免文解。蒋傅已亡，诏以束帛赐其家。庚辰，伯祝为安定郡王。癸未，金主遣使来贺瑞庆节。是月，诏蔡连追毁出身文字，除名勒停，配赣州牢城。诏赐朱熹谥，依条与遗表恩泽。太常博士章徕初议溢曰文忠，考功郎官刘弥正覆谥议曰：『谥，古也；复谥，非古也。《谥法》曰：『谥生于行者也。』苟当于行，一字足矣，奚复哉?』其议略曰：『六经，圣人载道之文也。孔氏没，独子思、孟轲氏述遗言以持世，斯文以是未坠。汉诸儒于经，始采掇以资文墨；涉隋、唐间，河汾讲学，已不造圣贤阃域。最后韩愈氏出，或谓其文近道耳。盖孔氏之道，赖子思、孟轲氏而明。子思、孟轲之死，此道几熄。及本朝而又明。濂溪、横渠、二程子发其微，程氏之徒阐其光至公，而圣道粲然矣。初，太常议以文忠谥公。按：公在朝廷之日无几，正主庇民之学郁而不施，而著书立言之功大畅于后。合文与忠谥公，似是而非也。有功于斯，文简矣而实也。本朝欧、苏不得谥文，而得之者乃杨大年、王介甫，介甫经学不得为醇，其事业亦有可恨；大年政复文士耳。文乎文乎，岂是之谓乎?世评韩愈为文人，非也。《原道》曰：『轲之死，不得其传。』斯言也程子取之。公晚为《韩文考异》一书，岂其心亦有合与?请以韩子之谥谥公。』从之，乃谥曰文。
