3  | 顷之，盗魁病死，群盗推忠武为魁。忠武有众万人，以兵法部勒之，与之约曰：「凡劫官商，毋得杀人，财货必留还十之一，俾得为商之资本、官民之旅费。」既而官军讨之，山中仓猝无兵器，忠武使人揭一竹竿，以御兵器。战益久，则愈削愈锐，以刺人，无不死且伤，又获大捷。然兵吏之为所执者，皆礼而遣之，且具书自陈不得已为盗状，谓苟蒙赦宥，愿效死。及粤寇洪秀全起于金田，遣党招之，拒不往，曰：「吾之为盗，非得已也，岂从叛贼者哉！」向忠武公荣提军广西，使绅士朱琦为书招之。忠武约官军压其巢，出御而佯败，乃悉括山中财物，散遣其党，使归为良，而自降于布政使劳崇光军前，改名国梁。得旨赏千总衔，归向差遣。由此战必为士卒先，威名闻天下。盖忠武年十八而作盗魁，二十八而折节从军，为国虎臣，三十八而致命遂志，平生大小数十百战，善于寡击众，每出己意，坐作进止，率与古兵法暗合也。 |
