22  | 郑赐，字彦嘉，政和人。举洪武十八年进士，授监察御史。时天下初定，法令严肃，郡邑吏坐罪逮繋者多，既解戍，命赐就龙江编次，其行伍时暑甚，赐谕以上恩慰抚之，脱其钳械，俾各就居止。旦一诣视，有疾病，羸弱者，捐禄米、饘粥之，皆感悦。湖广布政司奏缺官，赐秩满，遂与简讨吴文并出为叅议二人同徳，恊力剔弊去蠧，清简寛直，最为知名。丁内艰，服除，改北平布政司左叅议。成祖在藩，赐服，事甚谨，被眷爱，而谋国者疑之，谪置安东屯。未几，召为工部尚书，既命督军务河南拒靖难师。成祖即位，李景隆言赐罪亚齐黄，逮至，上问：「吾何如待汝遂相背耶？」赐曰：「亦尽臣职耳」。上笑释之。改刑部尚书，复转礼部，宠遇日隆。后衰病，不任官冗，为侍郎赵羾所间，益惶悸周章，上心轻之。顷之，卒。上问翰林臣曰：「赐不病遽死自尽耶？」杨士竒对曰：「病矣惶悸不敢就医药，昨在右顺城门外立而仆，臣命其属掖出之。语未竟，上曰：「赐故君子，才不赡耳。其撰文遣祭翰林诸臣退」。上独召士竒曰：「微汝言，吾几疑之」。遂赠太子少师，諡文安。赐小心恭慎，易直和厚。学士解缙尝于上前称其足为君子文敏，杨勉仁先生荣。 |
