突厥颉利可汗郁郁不得意，数与家人相对悲泣，容貌羸惫。厥，九勿翻。颉，奚结翻。可，从刊入声。汗，音寒。数，所角翻。羸，伦为翻。惫，蒲拜翻。上见而怜之，以虢州地多麋鹿，义宁元年，分弘农二县置虢州、虢郡。宋白曰：帝王世纪云，虢有三：周封虢仲于西虢，虢州之地也；封虢叔于东虢，今成皋也；陕郡平陆是北虢。可以游猎，乃以颉利为虢州刺史；颉利辞，不愿往。癸未，复以为右卫大将军。复，扶又翻；下勿复、不复同，又音如字。

以虢州刺史刘瞻为刑部尚书。瞻之贬也，懿宗咸通十二年瞻贬。人无贤愚，莫不痛惜。及其还也，长安两市人率钱雇百戏迎之。长安城中分东、西两市。瞻闻之，改期，由他道而入。考异曰：玉泉子见闻录曰：「初，瞻南迁，无问贤不肖，一口皆为之痛惜。殆将至京，东西市豪侠共率泉帛，募集百戏，将逆于城外。瞻知之，差其期而易路焉。瞻为相，亦无他才能，徒以路岩遭时嫉怒，瞻为所排，而人心归向耳，其实未足谭也。」按瞻以清慎著闻，及懿宗暴怒，瞻独能不顾其身，救数百人之死，而玉泉子以为未足谈，不亦诬乎。
