少帝，名重贵，高祖之从子也。考讳敬儒，母安氏，以唐天佑十一年六月二十七日生帝于太原汾阳里。敬儒尝为后唐庄宗骑将，早薨，高祖以帝为子。帝少而谨厚，高祖爱之。洎历方镇，尝遣从行，委以庶事，但性好驰射，有祖祢之风。高祖镇太原，命琅琊王震以《礼记》教帝，不能领其大义，谓震曰：「非我家事业也。」及高祖受围于太原，亲冒矢石，数献可于左右，高祖愈重焉。高祖受契丹册，将入洛，欲留一子抚晋阳，先谋于戎王，戎王曰：「使诸子尽出，吾当择之。」乃于行中指帝谓高祖曰：「此眼大者可矣。」遂以帝为北京留守，授金紫光禄大夫、检校司徒，行太原尹，知河东管内节度观察事。天福二年九月，征赴阙，授光禄大夫、检校太保、右金吾卫上将军。三年十二月，授开封尹，加检校太傅，封郑王，增食邑三千户。俄加检校太尉、同中书门下平章事。六年，高祖幸邺，改广晋尹，进封齐王。以下疑脱「七年正月，加兼侍中」八字。
