杨继盛，字仲芳，容城人。嘉靖进士，授南吏部主事。师事大司马韩邦竒，尽通其天文、地理、乐律、太乙、壬竒兵阵之学。迁兵部车驾司貟外劾仇鸾擅开马市，贬狄道典史。鸾败，累擢武选司员外郎。疏论严嵩十罪五奸，下诏狱。或遗以蚺蛇胆，云「服之可以御杖」，却不受，曰：「椒山自有胆，安用蚺蛇哉？」杖讫创甚，破甆碗，刺右股，出血数升。已，复手小刄，割左股腐肉旁观，咸战栗不已，卒为嵩、陥论死。西市妻张疏乞代死，为嵩所抑，不得逹。穆宗初，赠太常少卿，谥忠愍，立祠致祀。
