吴人刁元风俗通：竖刁之后，以名为氏。元，丹阳人。诈増䜟文云：「黄旗紫盖，见于东南，终有天下者荆扬之君」。又得降人言寿春有童谣云：「吴天子当上」。」吴主信之，大举兵出华里，载太后及后宫数千人西上，皓意盖欲直至寿春以应谣言。行遇大雪，兵士寒冻殆死，皆曰：「若遇敌，便当倒戈」。吴主乃还。先是，吴散骑常侍王蕃，气体高亮，不能承顔顺㫖，吴主不悦，万彧从而谮之，蕃遂被弑。及吴主出华里，彧恐其不归，与左将军留平有宻谋，吴主颇闻之，后因㑹以毒酒饮彧，及平不死，彧自杀，平愤懑而卒。 王蕃，字永元，庐江人。
