118  | 懿宗咸通中，南诏率蛮来寇，懿宗以湖南观察使蔡袭代王寛，仍发单滑徐汴荆襄潭鄂诸道兵以击之，蛮遂引去。时岭南节度使蔡京忌袭功成，罢戍兵，袭以蛮寇未定，兵疲食尽，作十必死状，申于中书省。时相信京言，终不省。四年春正月，南诏复率蛮兵五万来攻，复陷府城，援兵不至。袭左右皆徒步力战，身中十矢，欲下船不及溺水而死。荆南虞候元惟德谓其众曰：「吾辈无船，入水则死，不若还向城与蛮人斗，以一身易二蛮，亦为有利。」遂自东罗门入。蛮不为备，惟德纵兵击之，杀二千馀人。明日蛮将杨思进出战，惟德死之。蛮所杀虏凡五十万人，留兵二万人。懿宗召还诸道兵，罢安南都?府，置行交州于海门镇，以宋戎为交州刺史。七月复置都?府。咸通五年，以容管经畧使张茵勾当安南军府事。茵逗留不进，夏侯荐高骈以代茵。 |
