应登，字升之，寳应人。𢎞治已未进士，除南京戸部主事。迁知延平府，以副使提学陜西，调云南，寻升布政司右㕘政。有《凌溪集》。李献吉云：凌溪饫醇探，脔喷英摛《华，树声萟林》时，华玉元瑞昌，国号「江东三才」。凌溪乃与竝奋竞，骋吴、楚之间 顾华玉云：「升之才华，彪发泉涌，每当人落笔一埽千言㫄，观者往往夺气。其诗上准风、雅，下采沈、宋，磅礴藴藉，郁兴一代之体。伯康、徳涵云：凌溪清新俊逸，有国风之材。 许 诚云：先生训诸生云：文者，言之精也。诗者，言之华也。精则寓文于质，故先体格而后组饰。华则縁情制词，故首兴致而尚婉约。汉、魏诗雅》而邃六朝，诗艳而缛辞。随世异情由衷发，吾于唐取其温厚焉。乃知见定于中，言发诸外篇有所本，辞有所禆信乎？必传也已。 王元美云：朱升之如桓宣武，似刘司空，无所不恨」。陈顾𤣥言云：大㕘情过其才，亦时出新语。 卧子云：「升之有诗名而合作殊。少静志居诗话：「李何竝兴李，目空诸子，自三秦而外，得其门者，葢寡心慕，手追凌溪一人而已」。其口占絶句云：「文章康李传新体，驱逐唐儒驾马迁」。葢其文亦宗北地者。祝希哲赠诗云：「大韶张宫悬，九变尽美善」。《陈鲁南诗》云：「摛毫扬美词，肆意逐髙云」。李献吉诗云：「疏越发潜响，烂若湍锦舒」。《徐昌谷诗云：「神飇清管发，逸兴白云俱」。其为名流所赏如此。
