39  | 明何瑭，字粹夫，懐庆卫籍武陟人，为诸生，即有志圣贤之学。𢎞治辛酉，乡试第一，壬戍，登进士，选翰林院庶吉士，授编修。正徳初逆瑾窃政，一日，赠诸翰林川扇，有入而跪见者，瑭独长揖，瑾怒，不以赠，受赠者复拜谢，瑭正色曰：「何仆仆也！」瑾大怒，诘其姓名，瑭直前应曰：「编修何瑭？」瑾愈怒，娭笑曰：「翰林贵人也，欲害之」。瑭遂累疏乞归，瑾诛，召还，擢修撰，以直经筵触犯忌讳，调开州同知，晋东昌府同知，乞归，隠居南村，四方从学甚衆，嘉靖改元，起授浙江提学副使，敦本尚实，士气丕变，未几，晋南京太常卿，歴工、户礼三部侍郎、南京右都御史，致仕家居，与闗中吕楠、仪封王廷相、灵寳许诰诸人简札往来，究辩经书性命之㫖，行已教人切近精实，时以比之圣门由赐。瑭性洁气刚，涵养和粹，虽世局变推，而独不受染，临事毅然不可夺难进易退，有髙世之节。门人请梓文録曰：「圣贤之道，昭在六籍，如日星后学，愧不能知而行之。自宋以来，儒者之论，方苦太多，此吾之所深惧也」。卒，赠礼部尚书，諡文定。所著有《栢斋集》十二巻、《儒学管见《隂阳律》、《吕管见》行于世。 |
