| | Jinggong sent Yanzi to Chu. King of Chu presented tangerines, placed a knife for peeling, and Yanzi ate them without peeling the skin.

楚王曰：「當去剖。」晏子對曰：「臣聞之，賜人主之前者，瓜桃不削，橘柚不剖。今者萬乘無教令，臣故不敢剖；不然，臣非不知也。」 |
| | King of Chu said, "One should remove the peel." Yanzi replied, "I have heard that when fruits are presented before a ruler, melons and peaches need not be peeled, and tangerines and pomelos need not be cut open." Now that the ruler of ten thousand chariots has given no instructions, I therefore dared not peel them; "Otherwise, it is not that I do not know how to."
