子曰：The Master said,
「麻冕，"The linen cap
禮也；is that prescribed by the rules of ceremony,
今也純，but now a silk one is worn.
儉。It is economical,
吾從眾。and I follow the common practice.
拜下，Bowing below the hall
禮也；is prescribed by the rules of ceremony,
今拜乎上，but now the practice is to bow only after ascending it.
泰也。That is arrogant.
雖違眾，吾從下。」I continue to bow below the hall, though I oppose the common practice."
