4  | 由與猶同《新唐書．藩鎮傳序》云：「其人自視由羌狄然。」據字義，「由」當為「猶」，故吳縝作《唐書音訓》有《糾謬》一篇，正指其失，彼元不深究《孟子》也。文惠公頃與予作《唐書補過》，嘗駁其說。予作文每用之，輒為人所疑問，今為詳載於此。如「以齊王，由反手也」，「由弓人而恥為弓」，「王由足用為善」，「是由惡醉而強酒」，「由己溺之，由己飢之」，「由射於百步之外」，「見且由不得亟」，其義皆然，蓋由與猶通用也。 |
