內則古十三學樂誦詩十五以上學射御二十以上學禮博學不教三十猶博學無方至四十而仕矣故曰四十始仕五十命為大夫服官政七十致事此為學與入仕之次第也故學以五十為斷至五十而老至不學矣故曰養老之禮自五十始夫子不知老將至衞武公耄而好學此非常例不足難也如三十壯有室將無過此絶婚娶乎又學記自十五入學以後必間一年考 校之故自三年五年至七年而小成九年而大成則約有二十四嵗此考校之年與為學之年又不同然則劉元城所言果無據乎曰何據宋人好作偽好改古文初時人亦以為非無何而同時之人即引作據如鄭樵刪禹貢初以為不然而旋據以解江漢阮逸造闗朗易傳明知偽作而即據之証河圖洛書此宋人習氣最可笑者盧荷亭嘗云五十為卒自漢至宋註論語者非一至劉聘君始為此言則前此諸儒必依文註解明矣乃以數千年依文註解之書而屈而就之一時一人之言而至今相安恬不為怪何也曰習熟也向使為集註者本依文註解而今有人焉改曰五十為卒則人不共唾而斤之也乎此言良然先仲兄與三曰魯魚亥豖必其字形俱相類者故曰形近致誤卒與五十不近也案說文五者互也从二从乂謂隂陽交互于二大間也卒者𨽻人給事名也古以染衣題識故从衣从十謂衣飾有異色也則試以今文觀之五字與衣字相近乎否乎即因而觀古文與众相近乎否乎毋亦宋後陋儒習見草書有草卒字者以字合九十為文九字近五故以云則自春秋及兩漢又有草書古經可藏之壁而傳之人者此又一艾子也
