〈駢拇篇〉「枝於仁者，擢德塞性，以收名聲。」念孫案：「塞」與「擢」義不相類，「塞」當為「搴」，「擢、搴」皆謂拔取之也。《廣雅》曰：「搴，取也，《楚辭·離騷·注》及《史記·叔孫通傳·索隱》引許愼，竝與《廣雅》同。《方言》作「攓」，云「取也，南楚曰『攓』。」《說文》作「㩃」，云「拔取也。」拔也。」樊灮注《爾雅》及李奇注《漢書·季布欒布田叔傳贊》竝與《廣雅》同。此言世之人皆擢其德，搴其性，務為仁義以收名聲，非謂塞其性也。《淮南·俶眞篇》曰：「俗世之學擢德攓性，內愁五藏，外勞耳目，乃始招蟯振繾物之豪𦬆，搖消掉捎仁義禮樂，㬥行越智於天下，以招號名聲於世。」又曰：「今萬物之來擢拔吾性，攓取吾情。」皆其證也。隸書「手」字或作「𠀆」若「擧」字作「舉」，「●缺字：⿱𡗗手；上𡗗下手」字作「奉」之類。故「搴」字或作「●缺字：上𡨄下𠀆」，形與「塞」相似，因譌而為「塞」矣。
