天之与地皆体也，Heaven and earth are both bodies.
地无下， As one cannot descend into the earth,
则天无上矣。 one cannot ascend into heaven.
天无上， Such being the case,
升之路何如？ where would be a road leading up to heaven?
穿天之体，人力不能入。Man is not strong enough to enter and pass through heaven's body.
如天之门在西北，升天之人，宜从昆仑上。If the gate of heaven is in the North-west, all people rising to heaven must pass by the Kunlun Mountain.
淮南之国，The State of Huainan
在地东南， being situated in the South-east of the earth,
如审升天，he must, if he really ascended to heaven,
宜举家先从昆仑， first have gone to Kunlun with all his household,
乃得其阶； where he would have found an ascent.
如鼓翼邪飞，趋西北之隅，Provided the Prince of Huainan flew straight across the land to the north-western corner, flapping his wings,
是则淮南王有羽翼也。 then he must have had feathers and wings.
今不言其从之昆仑， But since no mention is made of his passing by the Kunlun,
亦不言其身生羽翼， nor of feathers and wings growing out of his body,
空言升天，the mere assertion of his ascension
竟虚非实也。 cannot be but wrong and untrue.
