天子视不上于袷，The son of Heaven does not look at a person above his collar
不下于带； or below his girdle;
国君，the ruler of a state
绥视； looks at him a little lower (than the collar);
大夫， a Great officer,
衡视； on a line with his heart;
士视五步。and an ordinary officer, not from beyond a distance of five paces.
凡视：上于面则敖， In all cases looks directed above to the face denote pride,
下于带则忧， and below the girdle grief;
倾则奸。directed askance, they denote villainy.
