| | Jie had already abandoned rites and righteousness, indulging in the company of women. He sought beautiful girls and gathered them in his harem. He also collected musicians, actors, midgets, and companions skilled in performing strange and magnificent entertainments, assembling them nearby to create extravagant pleasures. Day and night, he drank alcohol with Mei Xi and palace ladies without ever taking a break. He placed Mei Xi on his knee, listened to her words, and followed her advice, becoming confused and losing the right path. He grew arrogant, luxurious, and indulged in self-willed behavior. They built a wine pool large enough to float boats, and with one drumbeat, three thousand people drank like oxen. They submerged their heads into the wine pool to drink, and those who became drunk and drowned were laughed at by Mei Xi, whom found this amusing as entertainment.

| | Long Peng advised, "Your Majesty is without virtue; you will surely perish." Jie said, "Does the sun ever set?" "When the sun sets, I will perish." He did not listen and considered it an evil omen, killing Long Peng. They built the Qiongshi and Yaotai pavilions to overlook clouds and rain, exhausting wealth and resources, yet their desires remained insatiable. Jie summoned Tang, imprisoned him at Xiatai, but later released him; as a result, the feudal lords greatly rebelled. Thus, Tang received his mandate and attacked him. They fought at Mingtiao, where Jie's army did not fight back. Consequently, Tang exiled Jie, who fled by boat with Mei Xi and his concubines into the sea, dying on Nanchao Mountain. The "Shi Jing" says: "Alas for that wise woman, who became a screech owl and a kite." This is what it refers to.

| | Eulogy says: Mei Xi was matched with Jie, a woman who caused chaos and arrogance. Since Jie himself had no virtue, he further deepened his decadence. He used corrupt conduct, disregarding laws and customs. Thus, the Xia royal state was overturned by the Shang.
