予永念曰：'I ever think and say,
天惟喪殷，Heaven in destroying Yin
若穡夫， was doing husbandman's work
予曷敢不終朕畝？- how dare I but complete the work on my fields?
天亦惟休于前寧人，Heaven will thereby show its favour to my predecessor, the Tranquillizer.
予曷其極卜？ How should I be all for the oracle of divination,
敢弗于從率寧人有指疆土？and presume not to follow (your advice)? I am following the Tranquillizer, whose purpose embraced all within the limits of the land.
矧今卜並吉？How much more must I proceed, when the divinations are all favourable!
肆朕誕以爾東征。 It is on these accounts that I make this expedition in force to the east.
天命不僭， There is no mistake about the decree of Heaven.
卜陳惟若茲。」 The indications given by the tortoise-shell are all to the same effect.'
