君迎牲而不迎尸，The ruler went to meet the victim, but not to meet the representative of the dead;
別嫌也。-to avoid misconstruction.
尸在廟門外， While the representative was outside the gate of the temple,
則疑於臣， he was to be regarded only as a subject;
在廟中則全於君；inside the temple, he had the full character of a ruler.
君在廟門外則疑於君，While the ruler was outside the gate of the temple, he was there the ruler;
入廟門則全於臣、全於子。when he entered that gate (on the occasion of the sacrifice), he had the full character of a subject, or a son.
是故，不出者，Hence his not going forth (to meet the representative)
明君臣之義也。 made clear the right distinction between the ruler and subject.
