凡摯,天子鬯,諸侯圭,卿羔,大夫雁,士雉,庶人之摯匹;童子委摯而退。野外軍中無摯,以纓,拾,矢,可也。婦人之摯,椇榛、脯修、棗栗。
Qu Li II:
By way of presents of introduction, the son of Heaven uses spirits of black millet; feudal princes, their symbols of jade; a high minister, a lamb; a Great officer, a goose; an (ordinary) officer, a pheasant; a common man, a duck. Lads should bring their article, and withdraw. In the open country, in the army, they do not use such presents; a tassel from a horse's breast, an archer's armlet, or an arrow may serve the purpose. For such presents women use the fruits of the hovenia dulcis, or of the hazel tree, strings of dried meat, jujube dates, and chestnuts.

臣見君所以有贄何?贄者,質也,質己之誠,致己之悃幅也。王者緣臣子心以為之制,差其尊卑,以副其意也。公、侯以玉為贄者,玉取其燥不輕,濕不重,公之德全,輕以羔者,取其群不黨。卿職在盡忠率下,不阿黨也。大夫以鴈為贄者,取其飛成行,列。大夫職在以奉命之適四方,動作當能自正以事君也。士以雉為贄者,取其不可誘之以食,懾之以威,必死不可生畜。士行威守節死義,不當移轉也。《曲禮》曰:「卿羔、大夫以雁、士以雉為贄,庶人之贄匹,童子委贄而退。野外軍中無贄,以纓、拾、矢可也。」言必有贄也。匹謂鶩也。

又曰:王執鎮圭。以四鎮山為飾。公執桓圭,侯執信圭。信即身也。謂圭上作人身。伯執躬圭。亦身。子執穀璧。穀以養人,璧上作穀。男執蒲璧。蒲者所以為席,以安人,為璧上作蒲草文。孤執皮帛,卿執羔,大夫執鴈,士執雉,庶人執鶩,工商執雞。
又曰:春朝諸侯而圖天下之事,注云,圖,考績也。

3 贄:
《周禮·春官上·大宗伯》曰:以玉作六瑞,以等邦國。王執鎮圭,公執桓圭,侯執信圭,伯執躬圭,子執穀璧,男執蒲璧。鄭玄注曰:鎮,安也。蓋以四鎮之山為琢飾,圭長一尺二寸。公,二王后及王之上公。雙植謂之桓。桓,公室之象,所以安其上也。信當為身。身圭、躬圭,蓋皆象以人形,為瑑飾文,皆長七寸。谷,所以養人。蒲為席,所以安人。二玉或以谷為飾,或以蒲為瑑飾,璧皆徑五寸。不執珪者,未成國也。以禽作六摯,以等諸臣。執之言致也,所執以自致。孤執皮帛,卿執羔,大夫執雁,士執雉,庶人執鶩,工商執雞。皮帛,束帛也。表以皮為之飾,虎豹皮也。帛如今璧色繒也。羔,小羊,取其群而不失其類也。雁,取其候時而行。雉取其守介而死,不失其節。鶩取其不飛遷。雞取其守時而動。

4 贄:
《禮記·曲禮下》曰:凡贄,天子鬯,諸侯圭,卿羔,大夫雁,士雉,庶人之贄匹,童子委贄而退,贄之言至也。天子無客禮以鬯為贄者,所以惟用告神為至也。童子委贄而退,不與成人為禮也。說者以匹為鶩也。野外軍中無贄,以纓拾矢可也。非為禮之處,用時物相禮而已。纓,馬縏纓也。拾謂射韝。婦人之贄,梖、榛、脯、脩、棗、栗。
