| The mayfly's wings, neatly dressed in robes and skirts, is an expression of rising up. The mayfly symbolizes a brief and fleeting life. Born in the morning and dying at night, it still has wings to adorn itself; "Chuchu" means bright and neat. This imagery symbolizes that during Gongzhao's reign, all his ministers were petty men. They merely adorned their clothes and did not realize that the state was about to be threatened, with no day left for the ruler and ministers but death, just like a fleeting mayfly. My heart is full of sorrow. Where can I return to? Return means to have a place to rely on. The ruler should have nowhere to turn; this implies that there is impending danger of peril and destruction, with no place left to go. | ||

| That Houren, carrying a spear and staff, Houren refers to those who greet and see off guests on the road. He means to lift or carry. Dui is a kind of staff weapon, also known as Shu. It means that the office of virtuous men does not go beyond that of Houren. That man's son, three hundred red fuxi (symbols of official rank). Fu means Bi, a ceremonial sash. The sons of officials above the rank of Daifu who wore red Fu and rode in 轩 carriages are these sons. Three hundred people wearing red Fu sashes. |
