When the Master saw a person in a mourning dress, or any one with the cap and upper and lower garments of full dress, or a blind person, on observing them approaching, though they were younger than himself, he would rise up.
礼记·缁衣》:《兑命》曰:‘惟口起羞,惟甲胄起兵,惟衣在笥,惟干戈省厥躬。’
It is said in the Charge to Yue (III, viii, Sect. 2, 4), "It is the mouth which gives occasion to shame; they are the coat of mail and helmet which give occasion to war. The upper robes and lower garments (for reward) should not be taken (lightly from) their chests; before spear and shield are used, one should examine himself."
扬子法言》:或曰:“有人焉,曰云姓孔而字仲尼,入其门,升其堂,伏其几,袭其,则可谓仲尼乎?”
Someone said: Suppose there is a man who says that his surname is Kong, and his name Zhongni. If he enters Confucius's gate, ascends his hall, sits in his chair, and wears his clothes, then may he be called Confucius?

When the rulers cannot get a coat made they will employ able tailors.
庄子·天地》:垂衣,设采色,动容貌,以媚一世,而不自谓道谀,与夫人之为徒,通是非,而不自谓众人,愚之至也。
He will let his robes hang down, display the colours on them, and arrange his movements and bearing, so as to win the favour of his age, and yet not call himself a flatterer. He is but a follower of those others, approving and disapproving as they do, and yet he will not say that he is one of them. This is the height of stupidity.
商君书·君臣》:瞋目扼腕而语勇者得,垂衣而谈说者得,迟日旷久积劳私门者得,尊向三者,无功而皆可以得,民去农战而为之,或谈议而索之,或事便辟而请之,或以勇争之。
If men with angry eyes, who clench their fists and call themselves brave, are successful; if men in flowing robes, who idly talk, are successful; if men who waste their time and spend their days in idleness, and save their efforts for obtaining benefit through private channels, are successful - if these three kinds of people, though they have no merit, all obtain respectful treatment, then people will leave off farming and fighting and will do this: either they will extort it by discussions and suggestions, or they will ask for it by practising flattery, or they will struggle for it by acts of bravery.
诗经·绿衣》:绿兮衣兮、绿衣黄
Green is the upper robe, Green the upper, and yellow the lower garment!
