加脂粉則嫫母進，蒙不潔則西施屏。今學亦如此。學之脂粉亦厚矣。 |
| | If she applies face powder, then Momu would be chosen; if she is unclean, even Xishi would be rejected. Nowadays the study of learning is also like this. The face powder of learning has also been applied thickly.

伐一樹，除一苗，猶先看可伐而除之，況害人而不能詳審也？ |
| | When cutting down one tree or removing one sprout, you still first examine whether it is worth felling before proceeding; how much more so should one carefully scrutinize matters that harm people?

遇不遇，命也；善不善，人也。君子能修善而未必遇，小人不能修善，未必不遇。 |
| | Meeting or not meeting, is a matter of fate; Being good or not, depends on the person. A junzi is able to cultivate virtue but may not necessarily meet with fortune; a xiaoren cannot cultivate virtue, yet may still encounter fortune.

中才之人，知隨年長，事以學增，故年長則智廣，智廣則見博。 |
| | A person of average talent knows that with each passing year they grow older, and their knowledge increases through study; therefore, as one grows older, wisdom broadens, and with broader wisdom comes a wider perspective.
