1 冢臣章:
為臣事君,忠之本也。本立而後化成。雖有周、孔之才,必以忠為本也。冢臣於君,可謂一體。下行而上信,故能成其忠。股肱動於下,元首隨於上,以其義同,其心不異。夫忠者,豈惟奉君忘身,狥國忘家,正色直辭,臨難節已矣。此皆忠之常道,固所常行,未盡冢宰之事。在乎沉謀潛運,正國安人。至忠無迹,誠在沉潛。任賢以為理,端委而自化。官各得人,何事之有?尊其君有天地之大,日月之明,陰陽之和,四時之信。蓋之如天,容之如地,昭之如日月,調之如陰陽,不言而信如四時。若是,君體用盡矣。聖德洋溢,頌聲作焉。樂之於中,和之於外。《書》云:「元首明哉!股肱良哉!庶事康哉!」君明則臣良,臣良則事康。

忠臣之事君也,莫先於諫。紏過正德,惟能諫之。下能言之,上能聽之,則王道光矣。上能聽,下不能言,則虛其聽。下能言,而上不能聽,則虛其言。言聽俱能,則君臣諫合,則其道光明也。諫於未形者,上也。先事而止,君違不聞。諫於已彰者,次也。出未及施,改之非後。諫於既行者,下也。行而能改,雖下猶愈。違而不諫,則非忠臣。從君所昏,是乃罪也。夫諫始於順辭,中於抗議,終於節,以成君休,以寧社稷。順辭不從,犯顏抗議;抗議不從,則繼之以。其能使君改過為美,社稷之安固也。《書》云:「木從繩則正,后從諫則聖。」繩直可以正木,臣忠可以正主也。
