隋末，天下大亂，李密起兵於雍丘。是時河南、山東大水，死者將半。密將李勣言於密曰：「今人多阻飢，若據得黎陽倉，大事濟矣。」密乃遣勣領麾下五千人，自源武濟河掩襲，即日剋之，開倉恣食，一旬之閒，勝兵二十餘萬人。
