東謝渠帥姓謝氏，南蠻別種，在黔中之東，地方千里。其俗無文字，刻木為約。巢居，刀劍不離其身。冠熊皮，披猛獸革。酋長名元深，代襲。其一族不育女，自云高姓，不可下嫁。大唐貞觀三年，元深入朝，冠烏熊皮冠，若今之旄頭，以金絡額，身披毛帔，韋皮行縢而著履。貞觀中，開其地為應州，隸黔州都督府。今黔中郡所管羈縻州。
